Nigerian Football Federation (NFF)  president Amaju Pinnick has stated that he is hopeful QPR’s Eberechi Eze will play for Nigeria in the coming years.

The youngster is a current youth international for England, and is considered one of the hottest prospects plying his trade outside of the Premier League.

Due to the 21-year-old being born in England to Nigerian parents, he has an opportunity to decide which international side he’d like to represent at senior level.

He’s been in fine form this season and has netted seven goals from midfield, whilst also picking up four assists.

Pinnick is trying to persuade him to play for Nigeria and is hopeful that he will pick the Super Eagles ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Speaking to BBC Sport, Pinnick said: “We need to make a solid representation at Qatar 2022 and it starts with improving on your squad with quality players like Eze.

“Can you imagine a midfield with Ndidi, Aribo, Etebo and Eze? It is one that will improve our squad.

“I am confidently hopeful that he will play for Nigeria soon.”

The Verdict

Eze is simply fantastic and at Championship level he has been really good in keeping a consistent level of performance so far in this campaign.

He’s only going to get better with age, and that will really excite R’s fans. He does have a decision to make and it’s quite a big one, but he must go with his heart and where he feels like he is most from.

Eze is good enough to one day play for England, but if he wants to play for Nigeria and represent his parents’ international side then he should make that decision very soon.
