Egyptian side Pyramids FC picked up a 0-3 victory against Zanaco in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup Quarterfinals played at Lusaka’s National Heroes Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Pyramids went on the front foot early on putting the Bankers Under pressure in the opening exchanges of the game.
Ali Gabr headed in the first goal for the Egyptian side from a corner in the 17th minute, to get an important away goal.
Mohamed Farouk scored the second for Pyramids FC in the 24th minute with Zanaco’s defense exposed.
Rodger Kola and Emmanuel Okutu were looking less potent as the Egyptians nullified all the attacks. Ernest Mbewe looked lost and Chris Kaunda was forced to withdraw him and bring in Pitroipa.
The visitors were in control and so comfortable in the game they went into the break with a two goal cushion.
The second period began as the first, with Pyramids FC controlling the match as Zanaco were attempting to find a bit of redemption. The final ball was just lacking in the final third.
Charles Zulu who was the creative spark in the home team had some interesting runs but his cross in the 52nd minute couldn’t find anyone in a red and black shirt.
Abdalla Elsaid made it three nil in the 68th minute from the penalty spot to literally close up the tie for Pyramids. 3 away goals were sounding so good at this point for the visiting side.
Zanaco had literally no answer to what Pyramids had in store for them. Kiala Lassa had a chance from a set piece to pull one back but the Pyramids keeper Mahdi Soliman saved well.
A first loss for Chris Kaunda as Zanaco have a mountain to climb in the second leg in Cairo.
