Zambian Super Division side Nakambala Leopards have tendered an official apology to former coach Albert Mphande for accusing him of practicing witchery during his time in charge of the club.
In a statement signed by club chairman Esau Phiri, the Mazabuka-based outfit regretted its accusations against Mphande after having realized that the substance used by the coach around the team was actually anointing oil as found after carrying out an investigation into the matter.
“Nakambala Leopards Football Club wishes to unreservedly apologize to their former coach Albert Joel Mphande for the statement attributed to the club’s Chairman which statement appeared in an Article on Page 28 of the Zambia Daily Mail Vol. 24 No. 054 under the caption ‘Juju or anointing oil?’ ” the statement reads.
“The Club conducted its internal investigations and it has since been revealed that Mr. Mphande was indeed using anointing oil on the team and not juju as earlier insinuated.
“The Club took the liberty to interview several players who in turn confirmed that Mr. Mphande used to administer anointing oil and prayers for the team using a named pastor from Lusaka albeit this was done without the Club’s consent.” the statement added.
Mphande was sacked on March 2nd three months into his stay with the Sugar Boys after failing to steer the club out of the relegation zone.
