The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) revealed on Wednesday the league’s fixture list for August, around two weeks before the domestic competition restarts after a five-month suspension due to the coronavirus pandemic.
A rescheduled match between Zamalek and Masry will mark the league’s restart on 6 August while the Cairo derby between Ahly and Zamalek will take place at Cairo Stadium on 22 August.
The remaining fixtures will be revealed later, the EFA added.
The EFA said last month it had been given the green light by the government to resume football activities in August, despite the objection of a handful of clubs.
The clubs who oppose the league’s return said they were worried over the spread of the coronavirus, demanding that the EFA call off the season and start a new one in October instead. However, the EFA turned down their request, saying that it is a “state decision.”
Ahly are leading the league table with 49 points from 17 games, while perennial rivals Zamalek lie fourth with 31 points from 16 games.
