Asante Kotoko and Ashanti Gold will receive financial support from Government for their respective CAF inter-club competitions.

The Kumasi-based club will receive $200,000 whereas the Obuasi-based will pocket $150,000.

This was made known by the National Sports Authority (NSA) Boss, Peter Twumasi in an interview with Kumasi-based Sikka FM.

He said:”Government will give Asante Kotoko and Ashgold $200,000 and $150,000 respectively for their qualifications to play in the Caf champions League and Confederations cup competitions.”

Most Ghanaian clubs are unable to take part in CAF Competitions due to financial constraints but the aid from Government will reduce the burden of both.

Kotoko will take part in the 2020/2021 CAF Champions League while Ash Gold will participate in the Confederation Cup.

The Porcupine Warriors were given the nod by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to represent the country in CAF’s Premier competition by virtue of winning the Tier 1 of the 2019 Normalisation Committee Special Cup.

Kotoko pipped Karela United FC 4-1 on penalties after 1-1 draw in regulation time at the Accra Sport Stadium.

The Ghanaian soccer giants finished 4th with 25 points in the truncated football season.

Kotoko participated in the same competition last year but their adventure ended early as they were eliminated by Tunisia’s Etoile Sportive du Sahel in the first round.

Ashanti Gold were given the greenlight in the CAF Confederation Cup by winning the Tier 2 of the Normalisation Committee Special Cup.

The Miners were also selected following their slim 1-0 win over lower-tier side Nzema Kotoko at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

The Obuasi-based football club’s journey in the competition last year but they were kicked out by Moroccan powerhouse, RS Berkane in the first round.
