Pitso Mosimane has his Al Ahly side raring to go ahead of their first leg CAF Champions League semi-final against Wydad Casablanca on Today (Saturday) evening.
Mosimane and his troops departed for Casablanca from the Cairo International Airport on Wednesday for a 4500km journey across North Africa for what is expected to be a fiery semi-final tie.
After breezing through his first three games as head coach with four goals scored and none conceded as the league was already secured prior to his arrival, the Wydad fixture marks his first major test.
On Thursday the former Mamelodi Sundowns boss had his second training session and some light physio with several of their players who were carrying niggling injuries between the mandatory COVID-19 tests.
The entire squad and technical team tested negative in the two separate tests before returning to the training pitch together, welcoming the likes of Geraldo and Ali Maaloul who arrived from the Angola and Tunisia national team camps respectively.
Club President Mohamed ‘Bibo’ El-Khatib, who was instrumental in Mosimane landing the job at the record-eight time Champions League winners travelled with the squad and was in attendance at their matchday preparations last night.
And after the session, Mosimane held a short meeting with the head of medical staff Dr Khalid Mahmoud and nutritionist Abdelrahman Said over matters relating to getting the most out of returning players Kahraba, Aliou Badji and captain Mohamed El Shanaway.
The Club of the Century will aim to take home a first-leg advantage from Casablanca when they meet Wydad at the Stade Mohamed V at 21h00 tomorrow.
