Sierra Leone FA President who also doubles up as CAF Executive Council member Madam Isha Johansen has unanimously endorsed Billionaire Businessman Patrice Motsepe as a presidential candidate in the upcoming Confederation of African Football (Caf) elections.
Motsepe, currently the President South African club Mamelodi Sundowns, had already outlined his intention to go for the CAF President seat currently held by President Ahmad Ahmad in March elections to be held in Morocco.
Isha Johansen announced her backing for Motsepe following a Press conference called by SAFA and the Minister of Sports Nathi Mthethwa on Monday Morning.
In her endorsement Isha Johansen who is one of the most powerful women in African football said,
“Change has become an all too familiar slogan and mantra in politics be it national or football but the question is how many can attest to having succeeded in bringing about real genuine change for all and not for some.?
The key to successful governance starts from the point where the right person or persons are put in the right positions for the right reasons. African football and the African continent needs to be on the global platform for the right reasons.
Patrice Motsepe like myself is a humanitarian and a football club owner. His passion for football and very successful business ventures have been driven by humanity and a genuine need to change the narrative of the African continent. Patrice in my opinion has the ability to see beyond 90 minutes on a pitch”
The big questions many football stakeholders have been asking since the announcement on Motsepe’s Presidency is will Isha Johansen be the running mate?
Isha has been at the forefront for articulating change in Sierra Leone and Africa. Back at home, she has endured animosity from people who have been eyeing her seat but she has remained steadfast holding on to the majorly male-dominated position getting the name the iron lady of African football.
