Gor Mahia are set to travel without their Brazilian head coach Roberto Oliveira Goncalves during their first CAF Champions League assignment scheduled for November 28 in Rwanda against Armée Patriotique Rwandaise FC (APR).
This after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) through its Acting Secretary General Abdelmounaim, wrote to Football Kenya Federation (FKF) questioning his credentials.
Oliveira holds a B license from the Brazilian Federation which is only an equivalent of a CAF C license.
CAF requires that head coaches involved in CAF competitions have a CAF A license, UEFA Pro license or a valid pro license from other confederations.
The letter addressed to FKF Secretary General read: “We would like to communicate that as per the coaching license information received for your engaged clubs, the head coach of the below mentioned club do not meet the above requirement and will not be allowed to sit on the bench during the matches of the CAF interclub competition 2021,”
Failure to adhere to the above directive will attract an appropriate sanction which may jeopardise K’Ogalo’s participation in the 2020/21 interclub competitions.
The first leg of the preliminary round is set for Kigali on November 28 with the return leg a week later in Nairobi.
