Mathare United Women came from behind to gain their first point of the season after they played to a 2-2 draw when they entertained Kayole Starlets on Saturday at the Stima Members Club.

An own goal by Juliet Adimbo together with a 69th minute goal by Gladys Akoth secured the point for Mathare. Kayole had taken the lead in the first half with a 30th minute goal courtesy of Josephine Nana. On stoppage time, Nana netted the second to take the visitors to the break with a 2-0 lead.

Trailing at half time is a position Mathare have been in so many times this season; except that they haven’t managed to make a comeback. However, they managed to do just that this time.

Adimbo revived the hosts’ belief when she put the ball into the back of her own net in the 63th. Six minutes later, Akoth levelled matters and both sides shared the spoils.

Head coach Mary Adhiambo hopes this result will inspire a resurgence especially after the club acquired six new players. Judith Atieno and Bilha Billy rejoined the side after a break away from the game as Zelpha Adongo, Verrine Oduor, and Sharon Adhiambo joined from Division One side Spedag FC.

At the Mumias Sports Complex, Vihiga Queens went on with their strong run when they fended off a stubborn Wadadia in a game that ended in a 2-1 scoreline. Maureen Achieng and Terry Engesha were on target for the hosts. Ruth Chebungei levelled the game in the 58nd minute from the penalty spot and her effort only turned out to be a consolation for the visitors.

Vihiga’s latest victory cements their lead in zone B standings on 22 points from eight matches. Wadadia lie third on 13points.

Meanwhile, Violet Nanjala bagged a hat trick at the Eldoret Show grounds to help her side to a 4-2 victory over Eldoret Falcons. It only took her 15 minutes to open her account. Immaculate Nawire cut the lead with a 33rd minute goal before Martha Karimi restored Trans Nzoia’s lead in the 41st.

On resumption, Eldoret Falcons hit first and pegged the visitors back with a Viona Anyango 59th minute equaliser. But, the tie could not hold. Nanjala hit a double in the 68th and 73rd to grab all the three points for Trans Nzoia.

Kisumu All Starlets were 1-0 winners at the K’Otieno Primary Schools against SEP Oyugis.

Three matches are lined up for Sunday. Nakuru Queens will tackle Oserian Ladies FC at the Nakuru Show Ground as Kibera Soccer Ladies tackle Makolanders. Thika Queens welcome Ulinzi Starlets as Zetech Spark entertain Gaspo Women.
