The Botswana Football Association (BFA) announced today (Saturday) that it will not renew the contract of senior national men’s football head coach, Adel Amrouche.
The two-year contract which effected from August 2019 comes to an end this year.
“Amrouche has been Zebras head coach since August 2019, and his leadership during that time was important to our successful development and international exposure of our players,” said BFA Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Goabaone Taylor
“We appreciate all that Amrouche has done to build a disciplined team,” added Taylor.
“He has always had a thorough understanding of what it takes to be a successful team and has done his best to mentor his players accordingly.”
Amrouche became the Zebras head coach in August 2019 on a two-year contract, replacing dearly departed local coach, Major David Bright (MHSRIP)and was tasked with guiding the national team to the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations finals including the 20th edition of the regional COSAFA Cup.
Amrouche, 53, had previously coached Burundi, Kenya, and Libya national teams.
Meanwhile, Taylor said Amrouche is expected to lead the Zebras to the historic 20th edition of the COSAFA Cup, set to take place in Nelson Mandela Bay in South Africa from 7-18 July 2021, which will see hosts South Africa go head-to-head with regional rivals Lesotho, Eswatini and Botswana in Group A.
