Kenya skipper Victor Wanyama who plies his trade for Southampton in the Barclays Premier League might have unknowingly hinted at his “favourite choice” of Harambee Stars coach earlier this month as he addressed Kenyan Premier League side Tusker Fc players after a training session.
Wanyama attended two days of training at the club after Kenya lost 1-2 to Zambia on September 7th 2015 in an Afcon 2017 qualifier as he waited to travel back to the UK to join his team mates.
After a training session in Ruaraka, Wanyama who is considered a role model to many footballers who look up to him for inspiration being the first Kenyan to have ever played in the prestigious Barclays Premier League it was time to give the players a pep talk.
Our source who spoke to soka25east.com on condition of anonymity intimated to us “Wanyama spoke to the players telling them point blank that they were not working hard enough that is why they were not performing well in the league. He further intimated to the players that coach Francis Kimanzi was not the problem for the poor perfomances and infact if he was to be the one choosing coaches then Kimanzi would be the National team coach once again”
Wanyama later handed the players Ksh 20,000 to have “Tea” as he left the training ground accompanied by his handlers.
Francis Kimanzi was the head coach of Harambee Stars in 2008 and Kenya was at the highest peak at 68 in the Coca Cola FIFA rankings.
Current Harambee Stars coach is Scotman Bobby Williamson who was appointed in 2014 after the sacking of Belgian coach Adel Amrouche.Williamson tenure has been without alot of spectacle as he seeks to establish himself in the tough Afcon 2017 qualifers.
