Al Ahly coach Mosimane’s absence from touchline explained

Al Ahly progressed to the last 16 of the Egyptian Cup but they did so without coach Pitso Mosimane, who was a notable absentee on the touchline for the Egyptian giants.

There had been much speculation surrounding the future of the 57-year-old at Al Ahly.

While he had achieved admirable success with the club in his 20-month stint at the helm, a faction of the club’s supporters and legends have aired their displeasure with the coach.

Fuel was added to the fire when Mosimane was nowhere to be seen in the team’s 1-0 win over El Masry.

However sources in Egypt revealed that Mosimane, who is in Morocco where he recently obtained his UEFA Pro License, is still on an agreed vacation and is scheduled to arrive in Egypt at a later stage which meant that his assistant Samy Komsan took over the reins for the win in his absence.

Last week, Mosimane was schedule to have two meetings with the club’s President Mahmoud El Khatib, to discuss his future; however reports coming out of Egypt is that Mosimane will remain the Al Ahly coach for the foreseeable future.

“There is always coordination with the club’s board and the planning committee. Mosimane had requested a vacation because we worked for long periods without rest, so his vacation was after coordination with the club,” Al Ahly’s executive manager Said Shalaby told KingFut.

“There is no decision that came out regarding this, which means that Mosimane will stay. If there were, we would have said. But we are used in general that our problems is resolved inside the closed rooms and not in public, but there are no disputes.
