Gor Mahia Football Club Secretary General Sam Ochola has said the club does not subscribe to the Freemason movement that its chairman Ambrose Rachier confessed he is a member.
In a statement on Monday, Ochola said Rachier is on a personal journey that does not include the club and its members.
“The Executive Committee members, players, employees and the mighty Gor Mahia Football Club want to assure our fans that we are not part of the Freemasons Society and that our chairman’s affiliation to that society is a personal journey as attested in the media,” Ochola said.
Speaking to NTV reporter Duncan Khaemba, Rachier divulged that he is a Freemason member.
“I have been there since 1994 and I would find it is something good, something that I would want to invite a friend,” he said.
He further sought to deconstruct the mystery regarding the ‘secret’ organisation.
“I think most are talking from a point of view of Christianity, yet masonry is not based on any particular religion. It is all about ignorance,” he said.
“If you get to the masonic hall, the first thing you get is a citation of King Solomon to God saying: “I shall build you a house and you shall establish your throne forever.”
Ochola urged the FCs fans to be patient with them as the Committee devises the next step.
“The Executive Committee kindly requests all fans of the club to stay calm as we mitigate the way forward.”
Freemasonry is viewed as a cult and has over the years been viewed with suspicion.
