FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samoura has lauded 2022 FIFA World Cup hosts Qatar for making great strides in human and labour rights.
Speaking via video link to participants of the EFE Sport Business Forum in Qatar Samoura alluded to the fact that Qatar organizing the World Cup has generated numerous benefits for the country by improving human rights.
“to make great progress in terms of human and labor rights that otherwise could have taken decades to achieve” Samoura told the EFE Sport business forum.
“Hosting the FIFA World Cup has allowed Qatar to make great strides in human and labor rights that might otherwise have taken decades to achieve. It is not me as secretary general, nor FIFA itself who say this, it is organizations independent international organizations dedicated to workers’ rights,” she said.
“Although we are all aware that there is always room for improvement throughout the world, we have to praise and recognize the work that the Qatari authorities have done in this matter.”Samoura added.
“It will be a unique tournament and it will be a great occasion to bring all people together and unify the world.” “Everyone will be welcome in Qatar, regardless of their nationality, their religion, social orientation or any other personal or social condition,” she said in the video message to the participants of the forum.
Senegalese Fatma Samoura, has held the FIFA general secretary position sincePresident Gianni Infantino became president in February 2016.
