FIFA Rankings: Burundi up 21 places, Tanzania, Sudan gain as Kenya and Rwanda fall freely

The latest FIFA/Coca-Cola world ranking was released today, Thursday, October 1,2015.

In the East Africa region Burundi is the biggest gainer, moving up 21 places to position 113, a sure reward for their 2-0 victory over Niger in the AFCON 2017 qualifier on September 12.

Also up are Sudan and Tanzania who have climbed 5 and 4 places to positions 84 and 136 respectively. This despite “Bright Stars” of Sudan falling 4-0 to Gabon on September 5 – Tanzania on the other hand held fancied Nigeria to a barren draw on the same weekend.

Kenya and Rwanda are the biggest losers dropping 15 places to positions 131 and 93 respectively – this can be attributed to Harambee Stars’ 2-1 loss at home to Zambia and Amavubi’s 1-0 loss to Ghana in the AFCON qualifiers last month.

Neighbors Uganda which remains the best placed regionally has dropped four places to 75th, same to Ethiopia which has lost 5 positions to 108.

In Africa Algeria remains the best at 19th worldwide, followed by Africa reigning champions Ivory Coast at 21st , Ghana at 25th, Tunisia 36th and Cameroon 48th in that order.

Argentina is the best in the world, followed by Germany, Belgium and Portugal.
