Nick Mwendwa who has been taunted as the front runner in the race to topple incumbent Sam Nyamweya in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) presidential race is on the wrong side of a section of football stakeholders who accuse him of high handedness and fraud.
Gor Mahia Youth has accused the Kariobangi Sharks Chairman of refusing to award them first runners up money worth Kshs 250,000 they won in the Nairobi Championship Cup which ended over the weekend.
Mwendwa sponsored Nairobi Championship Cup ended on Sunday, September 27 at Camp Toyoyo where Terror Squad was controversially declared winners after a bitterly contested penalty shootouts against Gor Mahia Youth. The match had ended nil nil after the final whistle.
The controversy arose after the 9th spot kick whereby Terror Squad goalkeeper Kevin Oduor was flagged off by linesman for leaving his area before the penalty was taken – Terror Squad fans however ran into the field celebrating thinking it was the last kick, hence causing even more confusion. Calm was later restored but ref refused a retake leading to more chaos and later match abandonment.
A day later Terror Squad was awarded the trophy plus 1M shillings during a sports show on a local TV station by Nick Mwendwa. Gor Youth’s fair share of their sweat is yet to be paid as a punishment for the chaos caused by their fans as was alleged by the organizers.
No one has been brought to book yet for the abandonment of the match.
The development has caused an online rage from Gor fans and supporters of rival candidates who have launched a scathing attack on Nick Mwendwa candidature for the top seat of Kenyan football, accusing him of shortchanging youths and not being worthy to lead.
By the time of publication of this article, Nick Mwendwa is yet to give Soka25east.com his side of the story.
