Nick Mwendwa – Legal and complaints committee to decide fate of Gor Mahia Youth

Nairobi Championship Cup sponsor Nick Mwendwa who is also a candidate for the FKF presidency has cleared the air over the fate of Gor Mahia Youth who were the first runners up in the tournament which controversially ended over the weekend.

The match was abandoned at Camp Toyoyo on Sunday 27 due to crowd trouble during penalty shootouts and was later awarded to Youth’s opponent Terror Squad.

Speaking to Sok25east.com on phone this evening, Nick stated that a gala night will be held on Friday next week where prize money and individual awards will be presented to the achievers.

He also clarified that they have not refused to give Gor Mahia Youth the runners up money worth Kshs 250,000 contrary to online claims by a section of Gor fans.

“We have not refused to reward Gor Mahia Youth, but their fate will be known tomorrow when Nairobi Branch Disciplinary and Complaints Committee sit to decide what disciplinary action to be taken against them, since their fans caused the abandonment of the match,”

“It’s not for Nick to decide, the due process must be followed. We must be careful not to show our youths a bad example, in any competition there must a winner and a loser. If the committee decides that Gor Youth be awarded the money, then we will do so.” He added

He also said Terror squad was awarded the match because the law is clear, that if your fans cause abandonment of a match then your team forfeits the match.

The chaos proved costly as the organizers were forced to pay for damages on ambulance at a cost of Kshs 46,000 and a podium worth Kshs 160,000.
