Morocco midfielder Sofyan Amrabat has seemingly provided a possible hint about his future when asked by a Liverpool fan if he would be joining Jurgen Klopp’s side.
The defensive midfielder has been one of the stars of the World Cup as Morocco made a surprise progression to the semi-finals and has found himself linked with a January move to Anfield.
But, according to reports in Italy, Fiorentina are not willing to let Amrabat leave in the January window as many clubs battle it out for his signature.
Morocco are just one of a few surprise packages at the World Cup in Qatar. Sofyan Amrabat has been the beating heart of their courageous run to the semifinals.
After shutting out previously free-scoring Spain in the Round of 16, they were equally resilient to keep Portugal and breakout star Goncalo Ramos at bay, as they won 1-0 thanks to a first-half Youssef En-Nesyri header.
Where does Sofyan Amrabat play?
Since 2018, Amrabat has played in Italy’s Serie A. He now plays for Fiorentina.
While spending a season on loan at Hellas Verona from Club Brugge in 2019/20, the Italian club signed him outright and immediately sold him to Fiorentina for a fee in the region of €20 million (£16.8m/€22.2m). He has since played in 78 matches for the Viola, scoring once.
Fiorentina, with a side starring Giacomo Bonaventura, Nicolas Gonzalez and Real Madrid loanee Luka Jovic, sit 10th in Italy’s top tier after 15 rounds of the 2022/23 season.
