Madagascar aim to make impact in maiden CHAN tournament

Madagascar will play in their maiden at the 2022 African Nations Championship and will be looking to leave a mark in Algeria.

The Barea took part in its first Africa Cup of Nations in 2019. Among its biggest wins was a 1–0 home victory over Egypt in the qualification rounds of the 2004 Africa Cup of Nations until being surpassed by a recent 2–0 win over Nigeria in the group stage of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

Romuald Rakotondrabe is the man in charge of the local contingent of players which he will be looking to bring success to the Island Nation.

He will rely on the talents such as Rinjala Raherinaivo, Bourahim Jaotombo (both from CNaPS Sport) and Rojolalaina Andraiamanjato from ASSM Elgeco Plus.

Madagascar began their qualification campaign on a high, demolishing the Seychelles 4-0 on aggregate after they won 1-0 away from home. They followed up with a beating of Botswana on 3-1 aggregate in the second round. The first leg match between the two sides ended in a 1-0.

Madagascar are drawn in Group C alongside defending Champions Morocco, Ghana and Sudan. They will kick of their CHAN campaign against Ghana on 15 January, 2023 in Constantine.
