Kenyan international defender Brian Mandela Onyango clocked full time in Maritzburg United’s 2-1 triumph over Jomo Cosmos in the South Africa’s Telkom Knockout Tournament played on Friday 2, at Harry Gwanda Stadium.
Mandela has continued to cement his position in the side since joining this season from second tier side Santos.
Siyabulela Shai scored the first goal for “the team of choice” in the 44th minute before Kurt Lentjies doubled the lead from the spot in the 56th minute.
Cosmos which played the whole of second half a man less after Thato Sithole was sent off at the stroke of half time pulled one back through Frederick Nsabiyuma in the 75th minute.
The win means Maritzburg has booked a spot in the last eight of the lucrative tournament.
Mandela last played for Kenya in the 2-1 loss to Zambia last month in the AFCON 2017 qualifier.
