Solid display by Victor Wanyama in Saints’ triumph

It was another superb display by Kenyan skipper Victor Wanyama in Southampton’s big win over Chelsea in the English Premier League.

The “Saints” handed the reigning champions their fourth loss of the season with an emphatic 3-1 beating in a match played on Saturday 3,at the Bridge.

Big Vic as Wanyama is known executed his midfield role well covering the back four while occasionally joining in attack.

It’s the hosts who scored first through Willian’s curling freekick but Stephen Davies leveled scores before Mane Sadio put the visitors ahead – Graziano added the third to condemn the Jose Mourinho side to 16th on the log, just four points off relegation zone, as Saints climbed to 9th.

Wanyama will now be expected to replicate the same performance for the national team when “Harambee Stars” face Mauritius in the preliminary round of FIFA World qualifier away on Wednesday 7.

He has lately come under scrutiny by a section of Kenyan fans who accuse him of not giving his best for the national side. Wanyama last skippered Kenya in the 2-1 loss at home to Zambia in the AFCON 2017 qualifier, a result which contributed to a steep fall of the team, 15 places down in the latest FIFA ranking to lowly 131 in the world.
