Cape Verde and Egypt have secured a spot in the knockout round of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after playing out to a 2-2 thrilling draw at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium on Monday.
Cape Verde took the lead thanks to Benchimol’s strike just before halftime.
Egypt came back fighting with substitute Trezeguet scoring 5 minutes into the second half.
Mostafa Mohamed put Egypt in the lead in added time but the Blue Sharks did not lie down and equalized through Texeira.
Cape Verde secured top spot in Group B on 7 points and Egypt finished second on 3 points to get into the next round.
Meanwhile Ghana and Mozambique have both crashed out of the tournament after they shared spoils in an equally dramatic 2-2 draw at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium.
Jordan Ayew scored twice from the penalty spot in each half to put the Black Stars ahead.
Mozambique hit back to equalize in stoppage time. Geny scored from the penalty spot to make it 2-1 and then Reinildo leveled matters heading in from a corner to shatter Ghana’s chances of qualifying.
Chris Houghton’s men will be going back home after failing to qualify from the group stages for the second tournament in a row.
Ghana have fallen short finishing third in Group B with 2 points while Mozambique end their campaign in fourth with 2 points as well.
