Sudan climb top of Group B with win against South Sudan

Sudan proved too strong for South Sudan as they emerged 3-0 winners in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match played at the Juba Stadium in Juba on Tuesday.

As a result, the Falcons of Jediane climbed up to the top of the Group B standings after thrashing the Bright Stars who remain fifth on the table. South Sudan will be away to DR Congo in March 2025 when the 2026 World Cup qualifiers resume while Sudan will play host to Senegal.

It was a relatively quiet start to proceedings and neither side was able to work an opening in the first 15 minutes of the match with most of the ball being played in the middle of the park.

However, the Falcons of Jediane upped the tempo towards the half-time break and they broke the deadlock through Walieldin Khidir in first-half stoppage time with Abdelrazig Yagoub Omer Taha providing the assist. Sudan were leading 1-0 at the interval.

The visitors were the better side after the restart and they doubled their lead through Yasir Mozamil Mohamed who netted in the 51st minute to make it 2-0 to Sudan after South Sudan’s defence was caught ball-watching.

Sudan continued to launch attacks in the latter stages of the game and Mohamed Abdel Raman sealed the team’s 3-0 win with a 78th-minute goal. It was the Al-Hilal Omdurman star’s 20th goal for Sudan.
