Enyimba fall to Al Masry in Alexandria

Former Nigeria Premier Football League champions Enyimba fell to a 2-0 defeat against Al Masry in their opening game of the CAF Confederations Cup .

Enyimba kicked off their CAF Confederations Cup journey with a game against Egyptian club Al Masry, at the Borg El Arab Stadium in Alexandria.

Given that it was an away fixture, the People’s Elephants were the underdogs going into the game. Moreover, Enyimba have not been doing well in the league, as they have just one from their last five games.

Al Masry did not give Enyimba any breathing space from the blast of the whistle, as they grabbed a 1-0 lead inter just six minutes of play, courtesy of Mahmoud Hamada.

After conceding, Enyimba stepped their intensity up a notch, in a bid to get an equalizer. However, Al Masry were dogged and ensured that the former NPFL champions saw very little joy in the final third.

Al Masry looked more composed in the final third. And they eventually scored their second of the game courtesy of Hamada, after a scuffed finish in the line.

Despite their attacking forays, the Aba big boys failed to score. And it eventually ended 2-0 in Al Masry’s favour.

Enyimba’s next continental game is against Zamalek in Nigeria, and they will be looking to claim their first points of the fixture.
