Angola lock horns with Libya in World Cup Qualifiers

Angola will be looking to stay in touch with the Group D frontrunners when they locks horns with Libya in a 2026 World Cup qualifier at the Benina Martyrs Stadium on Thursday, March 20.

The Black Sable Antelopes have won just one of their opening four matches, but they are still unbeaten in the group along with Cameroon following their 1-1 draw in Luanda on 11 June 2024.

Pedro Goncalves’ side enjoyed an impressive 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign as they topped their group with an undefeated record to book their ticket to Morocco at the end of the year.

The Southwestern Africans will be keen to use that momentum to challenge for a top-two finish and they find themselves just two points behind the Indomitable Lions in fourth place.

Cameroon are expected to roll over Eswatini to keep them at the summit, but victory for Angola in Benghazi would two points clear of the Mediterranean Knights, who currently occupy second position.

Libya went unbeaten in their first three games, beating the King’s Shield (1-0) and Mauritius (2-1), while holding the group leaders to a 1-1 draw on 21 November 2023.

But Cape Verde put a blemish on their record with a 1-0 win in Praia on 11 June 2024 to go level with the North Africans on seven points and deny them the chance of claiming top spot.
