Jose Peseiro appointed new Al Ahly manager

Portuguese Jose Peseiro has been officially announced as the new coach of Egyptian giants Al Ahly. The move come weeks after the African heavyweights parted ways with Fathi Mabrouk for failing to reach finals of CAF Confederations Cup.

The Red Devils failed to go past Orland Pirates of South African losing home and way on 3-5 aggregate.

There were speculations on who would land the hot seat with former coach Manuel Jose name being floated but the 69 year old legendary coach was never considered by Al Ahly board for a possible return due to his advanced age among other factors.

“Jose’s name was completely excluded from the list of candidates to coach Al Ahly,” board member Taher El-Sheikh said.

“Jose didn’t work for the past four years, also his age was put into consideration.” He explained.

The board instead settled on Peseiro as the best candidate. The Portuguese began his coaching career in the lower levels of Portuguese football before moving to coach Nacional Medeira from 199-2003.

He served under Carlos Queiroz’s as assistant coach at Real Madrid but were both fired due to a bad season and Peseiro was later hired at Sporting Lisbon but fired in his second season.

He has been head of Saudi Arabia national team, handled teams in Romania, Greece and United Arab Emirates.
