Tusker Coach – Gor Mahia punished us.

Tusker Coach – Gor Mahia punished us.

Tusker FC stand-in Coach Leonard Odipo has squarely put the blame on his charges for the 1-0 loss to Gor Mahia in the KPL match played on Sunday 25 at Moi Stadium Kisumu, saying they got punished for failing to utilize they chances.

“It was a fair result considering it was a game of two halves. We dominated the first half but failed to utilize our chances and when you fail to do so you get punished,” Odipo told Soka25east.com.

The highly tactical match which saw the Brewers employ a defensive approach lived up to it’s hype with both sides giving as much as they received; but it was Tusker who created better scoring chances in the first stanza which they clearly dominated especially in the mid, occasionally catching K’Ogalo flat footed on the counter.

Leading KPL top scorer Jesse Were missed a couple of open chances which should have seen him increase his goal’s tally past the twenty he has so far scored but the solid Gor defense worked extra hard to deny him on the occasions.

Noah Wafula blasted over the bar a glorious chance in the early exchanges of the game after fully exploiting Gor’s left wing which lacked regulars Abouba Sibomana and Godfrey Walumbi and looked shaky – the speedy winger managed to leave his marker Innocent Wafula for the dead but his last strike with only the keeper to beat went disappointingly to the skies.

Odipo is taking the lessons learnt from the match to his last league game against AFC Leopards slated for November 1 on the last day of the 2015 KPL season.

“We have go back and try to rethink what we can do in our next match. It’s normal in football, we lost and they (Gor) deserved to win.” He added.

Michael Olunga who is chasing the golden boot award netted the all important goal for the champions in the 72nd from Karim Nzigiyimana’s cross from the right to push his tally to 17 goals.

Earlier before kick-off, Tusker players mounted a guard of honor for the champions as is the tradition in the world of the beautiful game for teams which win the league with matches to spare.

Gor play their game in hand against Western Stima at the same venue on Wednesday 28 before they wrap up the splendid season at Nyayo Stadium vs Muhoroni Youth where they will be officially handed the 2015 trophy for keeps.
