FT TP Mazembe 2-0 USM ALGER, (Agg. 4-1).
DR Congo heavyweights TP Mazembe confirmed their first leg 2-1 win over the Algerians with an emphatic 2-0 victory in the return leg of the two legged CAF Champions League finals held on Sunday 8 in Lubumbashi to claim their fifth title.
After a goalless first half before a fully parked Stade TP Mazembe, the hosts returned tails up from the breather pressing for the opener which came late into the match when Roger Assale was brought down in the box with red hot Tanzanian Mbwana Samatta stepping forward to convert the resultant penalty for his seventh of the tournament.
Unselfish Samatta set up Assale in the added minutes for the second goal to put the final nail on the coffin of USM who were playing for their maiden title.
The crown is Mazembe’s 5th (1967,1968,2009,2010 and 2015), three titles shy of Egyptian Giants Al Ahly; Mazembe are now tied with Zamalek also of Egypt who have also clinched the title five times.
