The Mauritanian Super Cup final ended in unusual fashion at the weekend, after the country’s president got bored of the action, and ordered a penalty shoot-out in the 63rd minute.
President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz was said to have become increasingly frustrated with the pace of the game and, with FC Tevragh-Zeina and ACS Ksar locked at 1-1, called for an early result, according to a report in Italy’s Gazetto World.
The unusual change in proceedings left thousands awaiting explanation, despite the league denying claims of the president’s involvement.
A statement issued by the federation present, Ahmed Ould Abderrahmane denied the allegations: “The decision was made due to organisational issues in accordance with the presidents and the coaches of the two teams”, it read.
