By Bonface Osano,
Victor Ali Abondo second half strike was all that Gor Mahia needed to break a jinx that has seen them fail to collect maximum points in open play at the Awendo Green Stadium since 1999, and extend their unbeaten run to 10 games in 10 matches and also stretch the winning streak to 8 matches; the three priceless points widens K’Ogalo’s top spot gap to 7 points above second placed Thika United in the KPL log.
In a waterlogged Awendo Stadium after heavy rains, the on form Abondo stepped up to coolly convert a free kick in 55th minute much to the delight of the travelling green army. The poor playing surface limited play to long balls from both sides but it was Gor who adopted fast and they dictated play in both halves.
The goal is Abondo’s 7th in the league and he is joint top scorer with Tusker’s Jesse Were as the golden boot race continues.
The loss is Sony’s second in a row after last Friday’s 5-1 humiliation in the hands of AFC Leopards, the Awendo side is 8th in the KPL log with 14 points from 10 matches.
