Ethiopia international Gataneh Kebede has joined ABSA Premiership side University of Pretoria Fooball Club, Amatuks on loan from another league outfit Bidvest Wits.
The development was confirmed on the club’s official website. Tuks Coach Mr. M. Mosala believes with more playing time Kebede will turn around his fortunes, he also hopes to bank on his experience to boost his young striking force.
“He was effective in his first season at Wits but since then he did not really get a chance to play. We have at times brought in players who were not being given a chance and they proved to be valuable for us. He will be one of our frontline strikers, we feel he will link up quite well with the rest of the boys and add great value to the team. Lucky and Botshelo are still young and are still in a building or learning process so it will great for them to learn from the likes of Kebede;” said Coach Mosala.
Kebede made ten appearances for the “Clever Boys” scoring twice since joining in the 2014/2015 season, but he fell down the pecking order hence finding little play time under Coach Gavin Hunt; he was among the players the technical bench wanted to loan out in the new 2015/16 season.
The gifted forward is looking forward to a better season at his new club as he promises to work hard to break into the core team.
“I’m happy to be at Tuks, they are an energetic team and I hope that I will enjoy my time here. I am willing to work hard to earn my place in the starting line up.” Kebede said.
Kebede was among the star players in the Ethiopia’s Walia Ibex squad which missed qualifying for the FIFA World Cup 2014 by a whisker, he scored four goals during the campaign.
