After completion of group matches over the weekend, Addis Ababa City Cup enters semis Wednesday, November 2, at Addis stadium.
Ethiopian champions St. George will face Nigid Bank while Ethio-Electric will fight it out against Adama City for a spot in the final.
In the last group “A” matches on Saturday 29, Ethio-Electric beat Jimma Aba Bunna 2-1 to finish second with 4 points behind St. George, who picked their seventh point in a barren draw against Defense.
Dawit Estifanos opened scoring for the electricity men in the 17th minute, before Biruk Ayale doubled the lead in the 37th, Jimma’s consolation came later in the second stanza through Tewodrose Tadesse 89th minute strike.
Group “B” final fixtures on Sunday 30 saw Adama edge out Ethiopian premier league new comers Addis Ababa City F.C 2-1, with Dedebit beating Nigid Bank by a similar score.
Adama went ahead a minute to the quarter hour mark through Bereket Desta, but Yonatan Birhanu restored parity in the 22nd minute. Five minutes to the first interval, Tesfaye Negash re-established Adama’s lead, as they finished top of the group with 7 points.
In the other match, Dedebit managed two first half goals, that Abel Yalew (4’) and Dawit Fekadu (36’) delivered, but Nigid spoiled the broth by pulling one back through Daganachew Bekele in the 74th minute to pull through on goal difference.
Both sides finished on 4 points apiece, with Nigid enjoying a superior goal difference.
