Gor Mahia beat arch rivals AFC Leopards 2-0 to bag “Mashemeji Derby” bragging rights, in Kenyan premier league match at Nyayo stadium, Nairobi, Sunday, October 23.

“K’Ogalo”, who lost the first leg 1-0 early in the season, took a deserved lead in the 65th minute, through Meddie Kagere’s penalty after Eugene Ambulwa brought down Jacques Tuyisenge in the forbidden area.

Substitute Enock Agwanda who replaced midfielder Collins Okoth then powerfully connected in Eric Ouma “Mercelo” floated cross from the left in the 85th minute to make it 2-0.

The coach Ze Maria’s boys, who are chasing a fourth title on the trot, were the more dominant side in the match, and should have had at least two goals in the first half, but Tuyisenge and Kagere were not clinical enough in front of goal.

Ingwe, as Leopards are nicknamed, created a few chances throughout the game and were largely contented defending, while trying to catch their opponents on the counter.

Prolific striker Paul Kiongera had a golden chance to alter the score in the first half from a through pass but his thunderous shot was marginally wide, with keeper Boniface Oluoch well beaten.

The win lift Gor to 4-point reach of leaders Tusker who drew 1-1 with City Stars with just three matches to go.

This was the 83rd meeting between the two most decorated Kenyan club’s.
