By Bonface Osano,
Kenyan premier league excitement continues to gather moment and this coming weekend offers you 5 tantalizing matches in the round 9 fixtures.
Tusker FC vs AFC Leopards
This fixture promises nothing but an explosive encounter if past records is anything to go by, of the last 6 matches between the two giants, the brewers have dominanted with 2 wins against Ingwe’s one, and the rest have been draws. Both Tusker and Leopards are tied on 12 points apiece in the KPL log with the latter at position 8 a spot above the former and a win for any will see a jump to top 5 with 15 points.
Leopards injury list continued to swell with dependable keeper Wycliffe Kasaya, midfield general Bernard Mang’oli and defender Martin Kiiza joining Uzoremeke Ikenna, Jackson Saleh and Edwin Seda in the doctor’s list of patients.
Low fitness levels at the den have been a great concern for head coach Zdravko Logarusic, “The fitness levels are improving and I can see that they are doing their best, though a lot still needs to be done.” He told official league portal.
On the other hand Tusker’s Jesse Were will be hoping to add to the 6 goals he has accumulated this season as the golden boot hunt ‘hots’ up; he scored over the weekend in the brewers 3-1 thrashing of Western Stima to take pressure off Coach Kimanzi’s shoulders.
The match kicks off at 3PM on Saturday April 25, 2015 at the Nyayo national stadium.
Tusker Vs AFC Leopards Head to Head since 2012
2014: Tusker 0-0 Leopards, Leopards 1-0 Tusker
2013: Tusker 2-1 Leopards, Leopards 1-1 Tusker
2012: Tusker 0-0 Leopards, Leopards 0-2 Tusker
Sony Sugar FC vs Chemelil FC
In another Saturday fixture the millers Sony will be hosting fellow millers Chemelil at home in Awendo. The coach Zedekiah Otieno side failed to collect maximum points against Mathare United over the weekend thanks to Arthur Weyula own goal in the 60th minute that cancelled out Amos Asembeka goal in the 30th minute to settle the match at 1-1. Against Chemelil, Sony will be facing a wounded side; the Mike Muiruri side lost one nil to Thika United and this match will present an opportunity for redemption.
Sony is placed 10th in the KPL log with 11 points from 7 matches one match less than Chemelil who are placed 12th with 7 points, a win for Sony could see them climb to position 7. Match kicks off at 3PM.
Muhoroni Youth Vs Western Stima
Strugglers Muhoroni will be up against season’s surprise package Stima in a clash that both sides cannot afford to lose. The Awasi side wants to change its dwindling fortunes and start winning again; in the last 8 fixtures they have only won once lost thrice and drawn 4 times a poor record compared to the Saturday 25th opponents Stima that boasts of 5 wins in 8 fixtures. Youth top scorer Anthony Nyangor who has missed three last matches due to knee injury will be racing against time to gain full fitness ahead of this crucial clash.
Stima on the hand wants to keep pace with the big boys at the top of the table, they need to put aside weekend setback that saw them lose 3-1 to Tusker at home in Kisumu and continue with their impressive start to the season. The Coach Henry Omino side is forth in the KPL log with 15 points and a win will see them reoccupy top spot with 18 points. The match will be staged at Muhoroni stadium, KO 3PM.
Ushuru Vs Gor Mahia
The Sunday 26th encounter will see the giant killers Ushuru host table toppers K’Ogalo at the Nyayo stadium, the 3 PM kick off match promises nothing but fireworks.
“We do not fear Gor, we will ignore the fans and play our game.” Those were the words of Coach Ken Kenyatta while talking to a regional football talk show on Tuesday.
The taxmen will be coming into this match buoyed by the second big win of the season over the weekend beating 13 times KPL champions AFC Leopards by a goal to nil, the first giant kill was against 10 times champions Tusker FC.
Allan Kateregga will be a man on the radar of Gor’s defense, twice he has come off the bench to deliver a winning goal, and his left foot strike early in the second half condemned Ingwe to second loss of the season.
Gor Mahia having failed to collect maximum points for the second time this season drawing 0-0 against rivals Sofapaka over the weekend will be coming into this match in no moods to drop further points. Gor is the only unbeaten side so far and they will be going for nothing but a win against the taxmen, K’Ogalo’s striking force for once fired blanks and Ali Abondo, Innocent Wafula and Meddie Kagere will be seeking to make amends in the absence of prolific striker Michael Olunga and Timothy Otieno who left for Botswana Wednesday evening for Rio Olympics qualifiers match against the hosts.
A win for the Coach Nuttal side will see them cement the top spot position with 20 points, the squad is injury free and he will have a pool of talent at his disposal to choose from.
Thika United Vs City Stars
The youthful Thika side has been on a roll, they beat Chemelil 1-0 on Sunday to move to third in the KPL log with 15 points from 8 matches, they will be up against a determined City side that registered first win of the season beating KCB 3-1. Thika’s Coach Tim Bryett’s philosophy of tiki taka soccer will be put to test again and it will remain to be seen how it works or not against strugglers City.
