Guinea Bissau coach Baciro Cande believes that had they converted their chances, his side would have won their Africa Cup of Nations second match aganist Cameroon on Wednesday.
In that game, Cameroon came from a goal down to beat Guinea Bissau 2-1 in an entertaining clash at the Stade d’Andgondje in Libreville.
Ngadeu-Ngadjui and Sebastian Siani scored goals for Indomitable Lions, while Piqueti netted Djrutus’s opening goal.
But the 68-year-old coach again had to put up a brave face when he faced the media after Djrutus lost to Indomitable Lions in their Afcon group A match on Wednesday night.
Cande was eloquent when he explained how his team lost.
“I think we did not fail, football is a game of circumstances because if there was a fair winner it could have been Guinea-Bissau,” he said.
Cande added if one was to count the many chances that Djrutus did miss on Wednesday night, you are bound to beleive his side won the match.
“We scored the first goal in the 15th minute and we missed to score our second goal in the first half.We had another chance in second half and Frederick Mendly had a clear chance to get for us a goal,”he added.
When asked to explain why he did not include the team skipper Bocundji Ca in the starting line-up ,Cande described Ca as player who has given his best to the country but the other players in the pitch gave their best.
“Bocundji is like any other player. As a captain he is also part of the team but we have other good players and they are giving their best.I am not here to favour anyone,” he explained.
