Kenyan Premier League also known as “SportPesa Premier League” will take a break after round five this coming weekend.
This is to give the national team “Harambee Stars” enough time to prepare for AFCON 2017 qualifiers against Guinea Bissau on March 23 and 26.
KPL Chief Executive Officer ( CEO ) Jack Oguda tweeted the development this afternoon.
“In support of the National Team, the SPL will take a break after this weekend to enable the team to to prepare for Guinea Bissau match 23-27.”
The 30-man squad named last week is expected to head to camp today to start preparations for the crucial tie.
The first leg will be played in Guinea before the reverse tie in Nairobi three days later. Stars are scheduled to depart Nairobi for Guinea Bissau on 20th – they will be joined by the foreign legion of captain Victor Wanyama, Arnold Origi, Ayub Timbe a day later.
This signals a new healthy working relationship between the league body and Football Kenya Federation in as far as Harambee Stars is concerned, unlike before when they pulled a part, and fought supremacy wars.
