Mauritania are on the brink of making history when they host Cameroon at the Stade Olympique in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers today.
Les Mourabitones are in second position in Group M with 7 points, a point behind leaders Cameroon on 8 points. A win for Mauritania will put them ahead of Cameroon on 10 points.
Mauritania are relying on their top scorer Cheikh Moulaye Ahmed for more inspiring performances. Ahmed has already notched three goals in the qualifiers.
Cameroon recorded a 1-0 win over Mauritania in the reverse fixture thanks to a Vincent Aboubakar goal. The indomitable Lions are favourite to win the match boasting of talents such as Nicolas Nkoulou, Eric-Choupo Moting and Stephane Mbia.
A win for Cameroon will see them attain an unassailable 11 points and book a place in Gabon.
It is without doubt that the battle in Group M is between these two teams as South Africa and Gambia have already been ruled out of contention.
