A Confederation of African Football-appointed inspection team will visit Cameroon for twelve days from 11 January 2018 to assess the country’s progress as it prepares to host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations.

The delegation will inspect facilities such as Stadia, Hotel and other infrastructures, in host cities, towards the successful organization of the 32nd edition of the biennial tournament scheduled for June and July 2019.

This has been revealed by the president of the normalisation committee of the FECAFOOT, Dieudenno Happi, who says that the country is on the right track and will be ready to host the tournament.

“The CAF has informed us that the inspection visit should take place on January 11-23,” he said in an interview with Actu Cameroun.

But the notification by the mission does not seem to shake the Cameroonian authorities who are confident that Cameroon will take the challenge of organizing the biggest African football event.

“Based on the current level of progress, what we understand is that even if this visit was taking place this week, I think Cameroon would be ready. Besides, it’s not a secret, I can deliver it to you too, I told Ahmad Ahmad at the CAN organizing meeting in Cairo,”adds Happi as translated from French.

“I told him that Cameroon would be ready to receive the visit of this mission of the CAF in November 2017. It’s good because I knew that the work was progressing normally, that logically, there should be no problem. And the decision to come rather in the first quarter of 2018 is a decision of the CAF and is welcome, “Happi concluded.

The Caf-appointed team was scheduled to begin the eight-day inspection on 20 August this year but the visit was postponed  following the withdrawal of PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) but now Roland Berger has taken over as the new audit firm.

Reports are rife the continental football governing body could turn to Morocco to host the tournament should Cameroon be deemed short of the requirements amidst rising political tension in the country.

Only Limbe Stadium that will be almost ready when the delegation arrives, while Japoma Stadium in Douala and the Paul Biya Stadium in Olembe will not be completed.

The 2019 tournament in Cameroon will feature 24 teams instead of 16 for the first time in history and will be held in June and July rather than January and February.

Cameroon, as well as being hosts, will be the defending champions having won the 2017 title earlier this year in Gabon.
