Bendjaloud Youssouf and Chaker Alhadhur scored two important goals as Comoros walloped Mauritius 2-0 in an African Nations Cup qualifier in Moroni
After a slow start at the Stade de Moroni, the game came to life in second half as Youssouf , who had missed a good opportunity moments before, opened the scoring after finishing move from the midfield.
Chaker scrored the second from Yousdofa’s pinpoint cross from the left as he made a near-post run and tapped home to finish a sweeping move, another one the striker started himself by winning the ball high up the pitch.
At this point Amir Abdou’s side was flowing with confidence and started to totally dominate Mauritius, whose chances were restricted by solid defending.
Then Mze Ali could have got on the scoresheet with a beautiful, first-time outside-of-the-foot shot from 25 yards as the ball nestled into the bottom-left corner.
Comoros’s win keeps their hopes of qualifying to the group of qualifiers ahead of the return leg match to be played on Tuesday 28 March in Port Louis.
The winner of the two leg tie will join Group B of the 2019 Afcon qualifiers alongside Cameroon, Morocco and Malawi.
