Japoma Stadium which is under construction will be ready by September this year for the Africa Cup of Nations 2019 which will take place in Cameroon between June and July.
Speaking to the press on Tuesday, Project Contractor spokesperson, Leonardo,confirmed that the stadium is under construction and by the end of September the stadium will be ready.
“We will be on time. Much of the equipment and machinery is already being mobilized at the site, and another part of the equipment and the metal frame of the stadium, manufactured in Turkey, ready for use will arrive in a few days by two large ships at the port of Douala,”he said.
On the site the Turkish Constraction Company Yenigun Insaat has stated in a statement that already they have completed the earthwork at 80%.
“Foundations is about 90% with nearly three-quarters of the piles and about 70 implanted stretches.
“Four concrete plants, five cranes have already been installed and activated full-time. The life base is 100% operational and has offices, dormitories, a laboratory, laundry, car parks, etc,”reads the statement.
The work is carried out by 608 employees, 369 Cameroonians and 239 Turks.500 employees are working during the day and 300 in the night.
Funding for the construction of a 50,000-seat stadium in Japoma on the outskirts of Douala was made on 2 November 2016.
