Scorpions of Gambia head caoch Sang Dong has exuded confidence that the side is ready to mount a serious challenge in a bid to get a ticket to Cameroon.
The West African nation start their quest to participate in 2019 Africa Cup of Nations finals when they play aganist Benin at Mathew Kerikou Stadium today and the gaffer is upbeat the team is ready for the daunting task ahead.
“We are ready for the task, it is not easy though but we have to live by it and all the boys have comported themselves for the game,” said Dong .
Gambia counsel general in Benin Alhagie Jaiteh has also expressed confidence that the young players will get an important away win and assured all neccessary support for the team ahead of the match.
” I want to wish you all good luck because today you are the Ambassador of Gambia in Benin. We will support you until after the match and up to the time you leave Benin. Our country is known for the respect and hospitality and I am sure you will continue with that’.
Sang and his charges had the final taste of the Cotonou main Stadium on Saturday evening just after flying down from Togo where the team had a night over from Accra, Ghana.
Team captain Omar Colley is leading the lads with key assistance from his senior colleagues Pa Modou Mamadou Futti Danso, Alagi Jobe and Mustapha Carayol amongst others.
The Gambia plays Benin on Sunday at 4pm local time and 3pm in Banjul been an hour difference.
