Uganda made their first AFCON appearance since 1978 after a series of qualifications misfortunes engulfed them in the qualifiers.
They eventually qualified in style when they beat Comoros 1-0 in the final match and qualified as best runners up .
The cranes were pooled in a tough group that also had Egypt,Ghana and Mali.They earned a draw with |Mali and lost by a similar margin to Ghana and Egypt .
The most bizarre and humorous statistics from Uganda is that they were the country /team with the shortest and lightest players in the tournament .
They had also the youngest squad in the tournament together with the champions Cameroon with an average age of 24.The oldest team was Togo with an average age of 27 .
Uganda had an average height of 176.11 below the overall average height of 180.63 while their average weight was 78 compared to Uganda’s 74.83 which was the lowest.
The team with the tallest players were Mali, Algeria and Tunisia with 184.26cm, 184.04cm and 184cm respectively, whilst the shortest were Uganda: 176.11cm and Guinea Bissau 176cm
The average age of players at the Total AFCON Gabon 2017 was 25.2 years old compared to AFCON 2015, 26 years old and 24 years for the CHAN 2016.
