The Uganda U-17 National team (The Cubs) lost 1-0 to Angola in group A at the on-going Total AFCON U-17 Championship in Tanzania on Sunday.
The Cubs fell to Osvaldo Pedro Capemba’s 33rd minute goal and did not recover to lose maximum points at the National Stadium, Dar es salaam.
Najib Yiga, Ibrahim Juma, Andrew Kawooya, Abdul Wahid Iddi and second half subsistute Ibra Mugulusi all had attempts towards the Angola’s goal in vain.
Uganda Cubs goalkeeper Jack Komakech was alert to limit the damage coming from the opposition at all times.
The best moment for Uganda to level the game came 10 minutes from full time but Mugulusi’s strong left footed shot hit the lower post and Yiga was slower to pounce home the rebound.
Andrew Kawooya, Ivan Asaba and Davis Ssekajja were all rested for Thomas Kakaire, Isma Mugulusi and Mukisa Opalla respectively.
Uganda’s left back Ibrahim Juma was sent off in the 87th minute and will miss the next match coming on Wednesday against the hosts, Tanzania.
The official opening match was won by Nigeria, 5-4 against hosts Tanzania.
