Kenya coach Stanley Okumbi has named the final team for Saturday’s tie against Sierra Leone in the 2019 Afcon qualifiers without injured Zesco United forward Jesse Were.

Jesse is out with a knock on his ankle and joins Johanna Omollo and Abud Omar on the doctor’s watch list.

In his absence, Kariobangi Sharks Masoud Juma has gotten the nod for the trip to Freetown tomorrow.

Also missing in the squad of eighteen is Posta Rangers full back Jockins Atudo, with Gor Mahia’s captain Musa Mohammed expected to replace him in the right full back role.

Gor’s midfielder Ernest Wendo has also made the cut and could earn his first senior cap. Wendo has shown tremendous growth in the past two years under Gor’s Brazilian coach Jose Marcelo Ferreira and his inclusion comes as no surprise.

However, he will have to fight it against Tottenham Hotspur’s Victor Wanyama and Zesco’s Anthony Akumu for a starting berth.

Other notable faces in the team are Tusker FC’s Jackson Macharia, Boniface Muchiri of Sony Sugar and the leading Kenyan Premier League top scorer Stephen Waruru of Ulinzi Stars.

The Squad:

Defenders: Eric Ouma, David Owino, David Ochieng, Brian Mandela, Simon Mbugua, Joseph Okumu and Musa Mohammed.

Midfielders: Boniface Muchiri, Victor Wanyama, Anthony Akumu, Ayub Timbe, Ernest Wendo, Jackson Macharia, Stephen Waruru and Eric Johanna.

Strikers: Masoud Juma, Michael Olunga and Samuel Onyango.
