Mozambique national team head coach Abel Xavier has insisted that he will not get carried away after his side recorded a 1-0 win over Zambia at the Levy Mwanawasa in Lusaka on Saturday.

Stanley Rafio proved the hero for Mambas with his 90th minutes strike that took Mozambique to the top of Group K of 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The Mambas now take a comfortable lead together with Guinea Bissau who beat Namibia with the same margin at home and Xavier says his side will remain focused.

“We need to be very realistic, we should focus and put our foot on the ground, people are happy, people in Mozambique are happy but we are coaches and they are players and they know what this result means for us,” he said.

On his side,Zambia coach Wedson Nyirenda insisted that his team can still recover ffom the defeat in the upcoming continetal fixture.

“We have time to recover and I think we also have a lot of games in terms of Cosafa, CHAN and we world cup games,” he said.

“We have to make a lot of strides in order to beef up our team and be where we have to be. Definitely we are not out we may have dropped points but we can still get there.”

Nyirenda added that the unexpected  loss to Mozambique was very disappointing to him and his squad.

“This is the most disappointing performance from our team at home. I am so disappointed with our team. I believe that Mozambique were the better team,” he said.

“Our team did not show any passion, they did not show any responsibility, they created a lot of scoring chances, they could have wrapped it up but they did not take responsibility.”

Zambia will now shift focus to the upcoming friendly match aganist South Africa on Tuesday at the Moruleng Stadium.
