The last-four line-up at the FIFA Arab Cup is complete after Tunisia, Egypt and Algeria edged epic encounters to set up electric semi-finals.
The North African trio emerged triumphant after three very different but equally thrilling matches
Algeria needed penalties to edge a titanic tussle with Morocco, while Egypt fell behind before battling back to dominate and, ultimately, overpower a valiant Jordan side.
Tunisia on the other hand was the first team among the three to sail through to the semi-finals.
The Carthage Eagles profited from the big occasion bringing out the best in their big players. For Tunisia, that was Seifeddine Jaziri and Yousef Msakni – their in-form striker and talismanic captain – coming to the fore to provide the cutting edge in a tight 2-1 win over Oman.
Following their win over Egypt and Morocco, Algeria will now focus on their semi-final against hosts Qatar, who comfortably beat United Arab Emirates in their quarter-final.
Belaili plays for Qatar SC and knows the Qatar players well, having faced them many times in domestic competitions.
“We’ve got Qatar in the semi-finals and we’ll do everything we can to win and lift the Arab Cup,” he continued. “Right now, though, we’re going to celebrate this victory and reaching the semis.”
The semifinal stage is scheduled for Wednesday 15 December with Tunisia and Egypt clashing in the first match while Algeria face host Nation Qatar in the second semifinal.
