The Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2018 women Afcon on Friday night unveiled the mascot, theme song and official website in a brief ceremony at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.

The mascot called in the local palance “Agorohemaa” which means “Play Queen” is a combined national colours of yellow, green with black representing its feathers

Minister for Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah addressing participants at the ceremony said that, “We have chosen eagle as the mascot for women’s afcon 2018 tournament and I have the honour to pronounce the name agorohemaa. It epitomizes courage, strength, focus and immortality.”

He continued: “Ghana is a country of great hospitality and I want to assure the whole of Africa that come that November, we are going to demonstrate it to the rest of the continent. Everything is in place for people to come and have fun.”

“Ghana is hosting this women’s tournament for the first time. It is a show of the president’s belief in greater women empowerment and we doing this to demonstrate to the young girls that we care about them.”

Also, outdoored were the official website www.afconwomenghana.com and the theme song titled “We are champions” composed by Ghanaian music trio, Noella Wiyala, Akosua Agyapong and Grace Ashy.

The 11th edition of Africa’s women football flagship championship is scheduled for November 17 to December 1, 2018.

The eight nations who will be battling for the coveted trophy and prize money at stake are – Ghana (host), holders, Nigeria  Mali, Cameroon, Algeria, Zambia, Equatorial Guinea and South Africa

In attendance were the Youth and Sport Minister, Hon Isaac Asiamah, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister, Perry Okudzeto, LOC chairperson Madam Freda Prempeh and Elizabeth Sackey, Greater Accra LOC boss.
