A second half goal from Aguibou Camara was the difference as Guinea beat The Gambia 1-0 in a tightly contested Group C match of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations at the Charles Konan Banny stadium in Yamoussoukro on Friday.
The first half saw both sides cancel each other with few chances created.
Guinea come close to open the scoring when Mohamed Bayo’s first time shot hit the post in the first half.
Other than that there was little to write home about in terms of goal mouth action in the first 45 minutes.
However, it’s was the Syli National who broke the deadlock thanks to a goal from Aguibou Camara with 20 minutes left in the clock.
The Scorpions under the threat of elimination were playing everything through their talisman Musa Barrow but their attack in the final third lacked the necessary sting to hurt the Guineans as they registered zero shots on target.
In the end, Guinea would see out the match to solidify second position in Group C with 4 points.
Guinea will now go into the last game of the Group to face Senegal on Tuesday while The Gambia who are as good as out of the competition will play the wounded Cameroon on the same day.
