Nigerian  legend Christian Chukwu has been handed a $50,000 cheque by philanthropist Femi Otedola to enable him to travel abroad for medical treatment.

The Former Super Eagles captain and coach is reportedly battling with prostate cancer but has struggled to raise the money needed for his treatment overseas.

Following the kind gesture from the billionaire oil tycoon, the 68-year-old will now be flown abroad next week.

Chukwu captained the Super Eagles to their first Africa Cup of Nations  title in 1980 and served as the assistant coach to Clemens Westerhof when the West Africans clinched their second continental trophy in 1994.

He also coached the side between 2002 and 2005, helping them finish third at the 2004 African showpiece.
