Ajax Cape Town are a step closer to winning the GladAfrica Championship after recording a 1-0 victory over Richards Bay as Swallows FC and Real Kings could only manage draws against TS Sporting and University of Pretoria respectively.

Three matches finished 0-0, including Mbombela United’s important fixture with Cape Umoya United, while TS Galaxy and Steenberg United also failed to find the back of the net.

The Natal Rich Boyz matched the Urban Warriors during the early stages of their clash at Rand Stadium, where both sides had opportunities to open the score.

In the second half, Abednigo Mosiatlhaga’s flying header was turned around the corner by on-form goalkeeper, Malcolm Jacobs, but moments later, Ajax finally managed to take the lead via the same energetic player, who now has 17 goals to his name.

Galaxy, without their suspended head coach, Mabhuti Khenyeza, but with club boss, Tim Sukazi, on the bench at the Wits Rugby ground, were hoping to bounce back from two successive defeats but it wasn’t to be.
